November Foodie Penpals Reveal

FPP post Foodie Penpals November Reveal Day

It’s reveal day!!!  First, I want to thank the beautiful and talented Lindsay from The Lean Green Bean for organizing such a fun program.

I was paired up with Carrie, a blogger from Aunt on the Run.  She asked me if I had any dietary restrictions or allergies, but I told her I didn’t – I love all foods and I’m always up for trying something new.  I think she did really well picking out my goodies:

card

Everything she sent was local food from Texas.  I love that.

the goods

I’ve never seen those Thunderbird Energetica bars before.  I was anxious to try it.  Handmade with all natural ingredients.  This was Sweet Lemon Rain Dance flavor with apricots, cashews, cashew butter, pea protein, coconut sap, lemon extract and salt.  That’s it.  No other ingredients.  It was really quite tasty.  It has a little more sugar than I like to consume in one sitting (14 grams), but I ate it prior to a long run so I’m sure I burned it off.

chili

I love chili!  I can’t wait to use this chili mix.  With all the craziness of Thanksgiving, I didn’t have time to make a pot of chili yet.  But as the weather gets colder, I’m going to want some chili very soon!

honey and jelly

Mmmm… local honey and local jam.  Peach is my hubby’s favorite.  He couldn’t wait to get this jar opened.  It was perfect spread on an English muffin.  Yummy!!

So thank you, Carrie, for the Texas treats.

The package I sent out went all the way to a reader in California.  Here’s a pic of what I sent to Jeremy.  He doesn’t have a blog so you won’t be able to read about it.  He told me that he likes dark chocolate, so I went a little crazy at the Trader Joe’s.  🙂

food box

If you want to join the Foodie Penpals, you’ll have to wait til January.  She’s doing something a little different for December.  She is asking that you donate the money you would have spent on Foodie Penpals and donate it to New York Cares, which is providing disaster relief for Hurricane Sandy.  Details will be on her website on Monday, so please check back!

October Foodie Penpals Reveal

Yay!  It’s Foodie Penpals time.

FPP post October Foodie Penpals Reveal Day

I love reveal day!

This month I was paired up with a blogger from Washington State.  Grandma Loy was kind enough to send me this box of goodies!  (That’s a long way to ship some authentic Washington apples)!!

Inside the package:  Crackers, cotlets and aplets, apples, cappuccino, sweet chili sauce and a note pad to hand on my fridge (which I totally needed for my grocery list, by the way)!!

Everyone in my family loves apples.  Sometimes we’ll bake with them – apple crisp, applesauce, apple butter, apple cake, etc.  But these we just ate straight up.  Love me some apples!

Grandma Loy said this Sweet Chili Sauce by Mae Ploy was her favorite.  And I love anything that has ‘chili’ in the name!!

I had no idea what Cotlets and Aplets were.  I had to try these immediately.  There are 2 pieces in each little package.  The wrapper had me thinking it was like a fruit bar you would eat for breakfast.  But instead, they are soft and chewy little squares of… well, sugar.  It’s like a little apple flavored candy with nuts, covered in powdered sugar.  YUM.  My 7-year old LOVED them!!!

cappuccino!!

I love cappuccino!!  These came in VERY handy when we were in North Carolina weekend before last!  I had taken a box with me to enjoy in the early morning before anyone else had woken up.  Mmmm.

So thank you VERY much to Grandma Loy!!

September Foodie Pen Pals Reveal

Today is Reveal Day!!  I always love Foodie Penpals reveal day!!  Isn’t it fun to see what everyone gets?

I have to say….  this month was extra special for me!  The box actually arrived ON MY BIRTHDAY!!  How cool is that?!?  I’m sure it was a total coincidence, but I don’t care.  I think it was awesome!!

My box came from Anna at the Blog “Be Healthy, Well & Inspired“….

So here is what was in my package:

2 boxes of Go Go Squeeze applesauce.  Sadly, I only had one of these.  My kids totally hijacked these from me.  The one I had, the cinnamon, was very yummy!  It’s all natural applesauce, with no added sugar (which makes me very happy) so I was glad for my kids to eat them.

A box of Annie’ homegrown cinnamon bunny grahams.  YUM!  I always love graham crackers and the little teddy grahams, but those are full of refined and processed ingredients.  These are all natural, so again, I am happy for my kids to eat them!!!

I couldn’t wait to try these kale chips!  I’d never seen these before!  Oh my!  So interesting.  And yet, I couldn’t stop popping them in my mouth!  The flavor was weirdly good.  Chili Lime.  I could taste it if I thought about it.  There was a slight heat at the end that I couldn’t resist.  My 2-year old also liked them.  We polished off the bag in one day!!

I L.O.V.E. edamame.  So these dry roasted edamame were sure to be a new favorite of mine.  They did not disappoint at all.  The slightly salty flavor and hearty texture….  I’m in LOVE!  I need to find these in a store near me!!  YUM!

And finally, the Southwest Dip.  Oh.  My.  Goodness.  I can’t say enough about this Southwest Dip!!  It was simply divine!!!  I put it on everything I could find…  crackers, meat, wraps… anything!  It had a perfectly spicy flavor.

Here is my Deer Wrap with Southwest sauce:

deer venison wrap

southwest sauce, deer meat, cheese, tomatoes, sprouts and greens

So thank you, Anna, for the super awesome box of goodies!

August Foodie Penpals Reveal

The Lean Green Bean

First off, I just have to say that if you haven’t participated in this program yet, you need to sign up, at least once. It’s so fun meeting another blogger or reader, buying your favorite foods for someone else to try, and then when your box of goodies arrives, it’s like Christmas!

I was paired up with a reader, Sara.  The theme of her box was “local”.  Everything she sent me was made within 10 miles of her home.  Now that is cool.  I love eating locally and I love supporting local businesses.  Good job, Sara!

The salsa was interesting and not like any other salsa I’d ever eaten.  I think it was the roasted red pepper that gave it that distinct flavor.  I kept dipping chip after chip to confirm what I was tasting.  🙂

foodie penpals

That jam is dee-f’ing-licious!!  Serious yum factor there.  My husband made the comment that it was “thick”.  That’s how I like my jam – thick and full of flavor.

We didn’t get a chance to try the pizza sauce yet.  But it LOOKS awesome.  I’m hoping the hubby will agree to make me one of his famous homemade pizzas that we all love so much, and when he does, we will us that pizza sauce.  It will be perfect for that!

So thank you, Sara, for the lovely box of goodies!!

The person I sent food to was Amy Croan.  Click HERE to read her post about what I sent her.
She recently became a vegan, so it was a little extra challenging which foods to pick out for her.  Thankfully, Trader Joes makes it easy with their labels.

July Foodie Penpals Reveal

I  am so excited to share with you my first Foodie Penpal experience.  Thank you to Lindsay at The Lean Green Bean  for such a brilliant idea.

foodiepal stamp2 July Foodie Penpals Reveal

This was my first month participating.  I was paired up with a blog reader, Kelly, who lives in New York.  She emailed me to find out what my likes/ dislikes were, and if I had any food allergies.  I told her that I like all foods, I try to eat healthy *most* of the time, I don’t have any allergies, and I love surprises.  So let’s see what she sent:

foodie penpals

I’d never seen those Eli Zabar onion thins before.  The first bite was very interesting, and then it became very addicting.  I couldn’t stop munching on them.  Yum!

foodie penpals

Dark chocolate almonds – who doesn’t love almonds?!?  Especially with chocolate!!  Those disappeared rather quickly with both the hubby and I popping them in our mouths every time we walked through the kitchen.  And a Kind bar – the flavor is Dark Chocolate Cherry Cashew.  I’d always seen this brand before but had never tried it.  It was delicious.

foodie penpals

There’s also some tea and a Fiberful bar from Trader Joe’s.  This has the consistency of a thick fruit roll-up, but it’s full of fruits and veggies.  So it’s a healthy fruit roll-up.  It was quite tasty and made an excellent mid-morning snack.  I do have to say – we are getting a Trader Joe’s here next month and I cannot wait to start shopping there!!

biscoff

And finally, Biscoff Spread.  I am speechless.  Oh. My. Word.  Quite possibly the best stuff I’ve ever put in my mouth.  Why have I never tried this before??  Where has it been all my life??  I thought for sure it had to be a specialty item, possibly only sold in big cities.  But lo and behold, I found it at Walgreens yesterday!!  So you better believe this will become a regular purchase for me!!   It says it is a “European alternative to peanut butter” but it’s made from the little Biscoff cookies.  It absolutely melts in your mouth.  Heavenly!

This has been such a fun experience, trying out new foods and meeting other bloggers and readers.  I had almost as much fun shopping for my Penpal, Stephanie at My Freckled Life.

I can’t wait to do it again!
