Weekend Recap: Laziness

This weekend was super lazy.  I had a long list of chores around the house that needed to get done.  Sadly, I didn’t cross very much off my list.  I did the usual laundry, vaccuming, kitchen cleaning, but I ignored the bathrooms, my closet, and other projects I’ve been meaning to get to for a while now.

What did we do instead?  We ate!  Well, not really, but that’s all I took pictures of.  lol

Mmmm… pork chops!

Saturday morning omelet

Low carb wrap with leftover omelet

Low carb wrap with sauteed zucchini and cheese

I did make my 7-year old help me with the chores …  and he did (with MUCH grumbling) …

And my 2-year old did Plyo with us on Sunday!  🙂  (Not really, but she loves stomping around the room like she’s participating too).

And of course there was a sunset pic!

I was not ready for this weekend to end.  It was way too short, even though we did gain an hour.  We also lost a lot of daylight on Sunday and that’s no fun.  This is my least favorite time of the year.  I saw one of those ecards that said “Goodbye Daylight Savings Time, Hello Seasonal Depression Disorder.”  Ha!  That’s exactly how I feel.

Question of the Day:  How do you deal with the dark and the cold of winter?

Random Thoughts

Over the last couple of days, I’ve had a lot of random thoughts that I wanted to share with you all.  So I thought it was time for a completely random post!  Sometimes the thoughts in my head are all over the board, so I guess it’s only fitting that the Blog is too!  🙂

1)  Ok – remember that Carb challenge we had at work?  Well, it’s over.  I had to pay $24 into the pot when it was all said and done.  I pretty much cheated every weekend.  Two people tied for first place.  I believe they only had 10 cheat days each.  They each received a $94 prize.  That’s a lot of money that was paid into the pot!  But wait – there’s more!  There was also a prize to the person who was voted ‘Most Supportive Teammate.’  Guess what?!?  That was ME!  I totally wasn’t expecting that.  I won $62  But I will say that I love motivating and inspiring others to achieve their fitness goals.  I love cheering on my friends.

2)  I am so excited about this!  I was contacted by a representative for a new fitness tracker website/ app called Slim Kicker.  They want me to test out the new product, which will be similar to a Fit Bit, and then blog about it.  Sure!  I love the concept.  It takes your diet and fitness goals and turns them into a game!  You can connect with friends for that accountability feature, and the best part is that as you reach your goals and “level up”, you can win prizes!  Now that is some motivation right there.  My user name is katiedaisy921 if anyone wants to buddy up.  I am excited to start using it.  I will let you know how I like it.

3)  I know I sound like a broken record on this one, BUT – we are restarting P90x.  Today is Day 1.  And it will work in conjunction with another Challenge!  My Beachbody coach posted a “Get Lean for Halloween” Challenge.  It’s actually a 90-day challenge to take us through the end of the year, with prizes at each 30-day interval.  So that was motivation for me.  90 days til the end of the year.  Let’s start P90x now.  I want to finish it this time!  Of course, I may be completely crazy trying to do this at my busiest time of the year.  Then again, it may be when I need it the most!

4)  And to follow up a thought about fitness, it’s only fitting that I talk about ice cream!  🙂  Remember that Blue Bell ice cream contest that I told you about where you get to pick the old flavor to bring back?  Mine didn’t win.  Caramel Turtle Cheesecake won.  They say it will be available early next year.

5)  Recent stats show 92 posts since June!  Over 2,300 page views, and growing everyday!  Thanks, guys!  I’m so glad you read my Blog.  Sometimes I feel like Barney Stinson on ‘How I Met Your Mother’, always talking about his blog but none of his friends read it.  LOL  I love that show!!

6) Even after I posted the September calendar for FatMumSlim’s photoaday challenge, I don’t think I actually took one photo all month!  #epicfail  So here is the October calendar, and I am going to try really hard to participate this time.

I think that’s all the randomness I have for today.  So excited that it’s Saturday.  The hubby took the son to a festival this morning, so I am trying to get some things done this morning.  I’ve already made a looooooong list!  Blogging, running, cleaning, baking, shopping.  Not sure if I can get it all done or not.  I still have my daughter here with me and since she’s 2, she’s not a whole lot of help.  But at least she’s darn cute!  🙂

Hope everyone has a WONDERFUL weekend!  Later.

Sprinting and Sunsets

If you follow me on Instagram (katiedaisy921), then you’ve already seen these pictures.

sunset

Last night’s sunset was awesome.

The clouds will usually dictate whether a sunset will be a good one or not.

clouds

I love those big, billowing clouds that look like cotton.

When I got home from work last night, I challenged hubby to a little Crossfit MetCon-style workout.  MetCon is short for metabolic conditioning.  High intensity interval training.  We started with a few Tabatas.  If you’ve never done Tabatas before, you need to!  It’s 8 rounds of 20 seconds work, 10 seconds rest.  One tabata is only 4 minutes long.  Sounds easy, right??  Ha!  Think again.  If you have a smart phone, there is a nifty little app you can download that will sound a buzzer at the end of each 20-second and 10-second interval.  I believe the name of the app is HIIT but you can find it by searching for “Tabata Timer”.

Then after dinner, we took the kids for a walk around the neighborhood (for the third night in a row – what up!!)  I kept challenging my 7-year old to a sprinting contest every time we came to a hill, just to keep getting my heart rate up… well, and to wear his butt out!  (7-year olds have way too much energy)  lol

When we got back from the walk, we put the kids to bed and pressed play on Shoulders & Arms DVD (P90X).  We didn’t do the whole video, mostly because it’s an hour long and I was already exhausted, but we did enough to get the arms moving.

I’m proud of us.  When I got home from work, I really just wanted to crack open a bottle of wine and chill on the couch.  Instead, we ate a healthy dinner (tuna wrap) and exercised (all evening)!  Go us!  🙂

Monday Motivation

Well, here it is.  Monday.  After being off from work for a week, I dread getting back to the grind.  I dread the week’s worth of emails awaiting me.  I dread the upcoming projects and deadlines.  In fact, we are just gearing up for our busiest season.  4th quarter is always a nightmare.  Every year it seems to get worse.  The last couple of years we’ve been a man down (or two) so everyone has had even more work to do than normal.  I’m not even sure what ‘normal’ is any more.  But enough about work.

I hate that blah feeling when you wake up knowing you didn’t give it your all yesterday.  The “I should have done this” feeling.  I had that this morning.  I was off from work for an entire week.  I had high expectations and ‘To Do’ lists galore.  But sadly, I didn’t mark one thing off my list.  Not one.  Granted, it was nice being lazy for a change.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  And probably needed the break too.  I just regret not getting anything accomplished.

So when the alarm went off this morning, I got up, put my shoes on and headed out the door for a walk in my neighborhood.  I wasn’t awake enough to run.  But the walk felt good.  I need to do that every morning this week while I still can.  My son goes back to school next week so my mornings are going to be crazy again.  Where did this summer go??

This quote speaks to me.  “If You’re Tired of Starting Over, Stop Giving Up”.  It’s not that I necessarily ‘Give Up’, but life gets in the way.  We haven’t been 100% committed to P90X this second time around.  I’m not even sure why not.  I don’t have any good excuses.  So we are starting over today, for the last time.  No giving up.  No excuses.

WIAW – 8/1/12

Time for another installment of ‘What I Ate Wednesday’.

But I warn you, it’s not great. Nor recommended.

Before I even had time to eat breakfast, I was out the door pushing the stroller around the neighborhood.  We covered 3 hilly miles.

image

When I got back to the house I was starving. So I counted out 14 almonds (1/2 serving) before pressing play on P90X Plyometrics.

image

My daughter even did part of the video with me!

image

(Ignore the dark picture and the toy-filled room).  🙂

For lunch, I couldn’t resist my famous low-carb veggie wrap. Have you tried these Flat Outs yet??  They are really good!  Only 100 calories and 9 net carbs.

image

We had some veggies leftover from the chicken fajitas we ordered the night before at Chili’s.  (Yeah, let’s don’t talk about my carb overload that day)!

image

I added spinach, jalapenos and hot sauce, of course!

I didn’t snap a picture of dinner because, well, I am embarrassed to say – I didn’t eat dinner last night. I know, I know – that’s not smart. It’s just that I had a hair appt that took longer than expected. I didn’t get home til after 8:30 and at that point, I just wasn’t hungry anymore.
I’m sure I’ll make up for it tomorrow!

Hump Day Plans

motivation

I don’t know about you, but I’m in need of a little motivation this morning.  I’m off from work this week.  The plan was to have a killer workout every day.  So far, I’m 0 for 3.  Yep, that’s right – I haven’t worked out in 3 days.  I wish I could say it’s because I was busy or doing other things.  Nope, I was just being lazy.  And still not out of my funk either.  But I’m going to try to turn it all around today.

motivation

I found these quotes on Pinterest this morning.  I hope they have inspired you as much as they inspired me.  So with that, I’m walking out the door to take my daughter for a walk around the neighborhood.  It’s just too pretty not to.  When we return, I’m pressing ‘play’ on the Plyometrics DVD from P90X.  Bring It!!

Hope you have a Happy Hump Day!!  🙂

Today’s WOD

I was in the mood for a hard and fast workout. You know the kind – your heart is about to beat out of your chest, the sweat is dripping down your nose, and your lungs are on fire.  Crossfit-style.  Love it.

I’ve visited a couple of CF boxes and I love the competitive atmosphere, and the comraderie that follows. However, at this point in my life, it’s just not feasible to join right now (full-time job, 2 small kids and only one income), but I hope to in the future. (Who knows I may even decide to open my own box- lol).

So for now, I’m fine with doing WODs on my own.  Every morning I look to see what the WOD is on the mainpage, and sometimes I just get inspired.

My husband and I have been piecing together a home gym.  First we found a squat rack.

image

Then we bought an Olympic bar with weights.  Then we bought a nice 1″ foam mat for the floor.

And then he built us a box.  20″x24″x28″.

image

So here is tonight’s workout:

5 rounds, for time:
10 burpees
10 pushups
10 pullups
10 box jumps
10 sit ups
10 air squats

Lungs were burning.  Check!  Sweat dripping.  Check!  Heart Pumping.  Check!  Mission accomplished.

Then we finished off the day with a little Yoga X from P90X.

One final note:  As much as I love the WordPress app, I don’t love the pictures that my phone takes.  I love that I was able to post this entire blog from my phone, start to finish, pictures and all.  But I do apologize for the quality of the photos.

I’m declaring a Mulligan

Unfortunately, we got so off track with the diet and the workouts that we’re just going to start over.  And I even broke my no beer rule. It’s just so hard to resist on a hot summer day. I know, right?

The argument could be made that this is a lifestyle not a diet. And while that is absolutely true, I would like to be able to call myself a graduate of the P90x program and not just someone who occasionally does the videos. And to do that, we must start over.

So today is the new Day 1.  The workout is Chest and Back. Basically, an hour of pushups and pullups. Followed by Ab Ripper.

Here’s today’s lunch. It’s a whole wheat wrap filled with leftover turkey burger, yellow peppers, squash, some cheese, mustard, and of course, kale!  It was delicious.

image

I topped it with homemade balsamic vinaigrette.  (Recipe from the P90x nutrition guide).

image

And I enjoyed it with a few Spicy Buffalo Wheat Thins. Have you tried these things?  Oh my goodness. Typically I try to stay away from packaged and processed foods. But as crackers go, these are far from the worst you could eat.

What packaged food can you not give up?

Back on Track

We got a little off track with the workout schedule last week.  I know, I know — it’s only the first week.  In my defense, though, it’s not that I wasn’t doing anything.  On Day 4, we were supposed to do the Legs & Back DVD.  I went running after work.  By the time we got the kids in bed, I just didn’t have the energy to do the video.  We decided to push Kenpo and the Rest Day back and keep going.

After chilling out and observing Rest Day on Friday, we really brought it for Kenpo on Saturday!  My heart rate consistently stayed in the 140s  I was DRIPPING with sweat!   In fact, I am really sore from Kenpo yesterday.  So much so that we’ve decided to substitue the Chest and Back DVD for the Legs & Back DVD that we missed the other day.

So this is the beginning of Week 2!  I weighed this morning and I’ve lost 3 pounds since last week.  YAY.

And don’t laugh, but I have a new favorite lunch:   Zucchini Wraps

My favorite vegetable is zucchini.  We had some leftover sauteed zucchini with onions from the night before.  So I started with a soft taco size flour tortilla and about a cup of zucchini.  I added some musroom and a little feta cheese.  Then I zapped it in the microwave for about 30 seconds.  I topped it off with some spinach leaves and balsamic vinaigrette.  And wa-la, that’s a yummy lunch!!  Sure, it could probably use a little protein to go with it, but it’s pretty healthy otherwise.

Day 3 – Shoulders & Arms

After a busy evening with the kids, we didn’t have an opportunity to start the video till 9:45pm.  But that didn’t stop us.  We still brought it!  This might be my new favorite video. My arms feel like hello now, but I love it!! I also ate well today so I am feeling good.
