Friday Fun – Pizza, Friends and Live Music

I’m a week late in posting this.  But better late than never, right??  Well, last Friday night my favorite band, The Delta Saints, was playing at Barley’s.  I had been looking forward to this night for two months!!!

greek pizza

Our friends Kara and Remington  joined us for some pizza and beer before the music started.

Their pizza is so good.  Definitely one of the best in town.  Hubby and I split the Greek.

And split a pitcher of the Sam Adams Winter Lager.  YUM!!

The band didn’t start til almost 11:15pm.  Which is really late for this old timer.  Good thing I drank a Red Bull before dinner!!  🙂

I absolutely adore their music.  His voice, their sound, the lyrics, the harmonica, the bass, the drums.  So much talent in one band.  I seriously can’t get enough.

And live?  They ROCK!!  If I could quit my job, follow them around and become a groupie, I totally would.

If anyone is keeping track, this makes the fourth show we’ve seen of theirs.  We were introduced to them in Feb, 2012 when they opened for The Dirty Guv’nahs.  Then they did a free concert in Market Square in October when they opened for The Black Cadillacs.  It was there they told us about the CD release party at Exit/In in Nashville, so we had to go.  And finally, back in Knoxville at Barley’s.  I’m not sure when I’ll see them again.  Looks like all of the Spring tour dates are in Europe.  Hmmmm…. wonder how I can work that out!?!  🙂

Their latest album, Death Letter Jubilee, was just realeased.  (Of course, I’ve had my copy since Nov 30th when I purchased it at the CD release party in Nashville.  It hasn’t left my CD player since.  Actually, that’s not true.  There was a week or two there that I swapped it out for the previous album, Bird Called Angola.  But I have seriously been blasting the Saints religiously for the last 2 months).

I’m not sure I even have a favorite song anymore.  I love them all.

Especially the title track, Death Letter Jubilee.  Check out their new music video HERE.

They played for a good 2+ hours.  We didn’t get home til after 2 o’clock in the morning.  And I was totally wired.

If they come to a city near you, I highly recommend you go see them now.  Do it soon while they are still playing in small venues.  These guys are going to be huge.

Question of the Day:  What band have you seen the most?  And if you could be a groupie, who would you follow around??

WIAW – 8/8/12

I’m a few days late in posting this. But better late than never, right?  Because I actually did take (most) of my pictures that day.

coffee in pottery

I started the day with coffee in my favorite mug.  Pottery by Teresa Pietsch.  She is a potter that works alongside my sister-in-law, Joy Tanner, at the Energy Xchange in NC.  Coffee just tastes better in pottery!

protein shake

Had the usual kale shake for breakfast.  Boring, I know.  But it’s soooooo good. And I recently discovered a new flavor of protein powder, Cookies ‘n Cream!!  Made by Body Fortress.  It’s really yummy.  I like it even better than Chocolate Peanut Butter.

almonds

About 11am, I got hungry and needed a snack.  Blue Diamond has the BEST almonds!!  Although, this one could stand to be a little hotter, the flavor is really good.

For lunch, I ran errands, so I ate yogurt in my car.

low-carb yogurt

Have you tried these Carbmaster yogurts from Kroger???  They are sooooo good.  And very low in calories and carbs.  This 6oz container only has 4g carb!!  Compared to other yogurts (even Greek) that have 20+ carbs, most of which is sugar.

tuna salad

All of the snacks tided me over til around 3pm when I ate the salad I brought from home.  Spinach, mushrooms, yellow peppers, onions, sprouts, and shredded cheese.  Topped with a pouch of Bumble Bee tuna.  Yum!

And I totally forgot to take a picture of dinner.  My husband made a beautiful homemade pizza, something he has perfected over the years.  His dough is every bit as good as Mellow Mushroom’s.  Since I’m doing the low-carb thing, I ate one piece, minus the thick crust.  Back in the day, I probaby would have knocked out three full pieces.  He topped it with spinach, mushrooms, olives and feta for a Greek/ Mediterranean feel.  My favortie.

Question:  Who makes the best pizza, in your opinion?  And what are your favorite toppings?

Confession Time

I have a confession to make – I blew it.  And not even just a little bit.  I totally went off the deep end.

I wish I could take it all back.  I’m almost embarassed to admit it.

Ok here goes – I ate Papa Johns last night.

There, I said it.  And it was so good.  Well, at the time it was good.

Now I regret every last bite.

I wish I could blame it on the kids, but it was totally my idea.  We had accumulated these Papa points which would allow us to get a free Large 3-topping pizza.  But we had to use those points by the 25th.  My son had an awesome week at karate camp, and on top of that had just lost his second tooth.  So I wanted to surprise him.  Plus, I wasn’t in the mood to cook.

So I ordered the free pizza, then I added an order of wings…. for protein.  My hubby wanted breadsticks.  And then somehow, I’m not even sure how, the cinnapie dessert pizza jumped into the cart too.  We ended up paying $20 for this “free” pizza.

After I ordered, I had planned to eat only one piece of pizza and a couple of wings.  But all that flew out the window when the food arrived.  I ended up eating one breadstick, two pieces of pizza, four wings and a one piece of the cinnapie.  Holy crap.  I really don’t even want to know how many calories and how many carbs that totalled.  I should enter it into My Fitness Pal, but it would probably just depress me.

I figure confession is good for the soul, right?  So I had to get that off my chest.  Although, I’m sure the food didn’t go to my chest area – I’m sure it’s sitting right on my hips.  I think I’ll feel better if I get it off my hips!!  And with that, I’m out the door for a tempo run.  I don’t know how long it will take for me to burn all that glycogen stored from dinner, but I’m hoping an hour will do it.

Have a great Saturday!!  🙂
